Music
Hick Hop:
First, a disclaimer. I didn’t come up with Hick Hop. Cowboy Troy uses it in his lyrics. And first thing on his video. (Also, I can tell now that Google bought YouTube and didn’t waste anytime sticking stupid ads into videos. It sucks.)
I stumbled across this because I downloaded the Las Vegas Soundtrack from iTunes to get a very unattainable Michael Bublé song (Sway Live). And this was on the soundtrack. I didn’t think of much of adding the files and hadn’t bothered to remove them. Then this song came up on my shuffle. I listen to music while I typeset because I find that I typeset much faster if I can do it to something with a fast beat. Seriously. If it is complicated I have to do some kind of trance or house music (no lyrics) but other than that anything fast is good.
So this came up on my shuffle and I found it amusing. Hick Hop? I guess it was gonna be done sooner or later. I do like it when folks surprise me. And genre bending is always good. Why be what others expect? If you are original… do it! Plus I love deep male voices in singers and wow, does he have one. And I really like the word play in most rap. I just find that I don’t like rap about violence. So this was great, fast paced and positive (even it if is a guy bragging about himself).
I Play Chicken with a Train by Cowboy Troy and Big & Rich. I can do without the gratuitous crotch shots of the country gals. But we are talking a music video and I can’t seem to find many of in either the rock or country genres without that. (Even a lot of the female artists seem to feel the need to include them.) But I have to confess that I listened to it over and over because I was on a superfast turnaround deadline and it was keeping me going. So I hope you enjoy. Here is a link to his album where you can get that song.

Rock:
These guys gave one of the best concerts I have ever seen. They were fantastic live. Usually I find singers somewhat off key or off rhythm. These guys were spot on and funny. Do not pass them up if you can get in to see them! Not to mention best use of a treadmill…ever. Though they only show the video in concert (and didn’t perform it live) because the venue I saw them at in SF had a tiny stage. And this is a great parody by Nobodyswatching.tv and my secret thought of what the practice for the Here It Goes Again video might have looked like.
Get more info about the band by checking out their website. I recommend playing the Rescue the Band Game on their site. It was amusing. You can also find more info at: http://myspace.com/okgo
More Videos for them:
Do What You Want (Wallpaper Version)I had dragged friends not quite kicking and screaming to see OK Go in concert in SF and they ended up loving the band. One of my friends bought everything they were offering. The guys did a cool unplugged song in the middle of the floor. I highly recommend them as a great bang for your buck and a really fun night out!

Standards:
Michael Bublé is one helluva singer. Check out his Youtube channel. The song is great and his phrasing is amazing. My favorite part is when he tries to get into the car at the end. I like a guy with a sense of humor.
This video is great because I love the song (and his voice) and it shows both what can be good about ballroom dancing (see the awesome couple) and what can be awkward (everyone else). And check out the girl to whom he is singing. It is Joe from the Sci Fi channel’s Eureka series!
This gives an idea of what seeing him live would be like. Great showmanship and I love the horns! I would love to see Michael in concert. I just don’t think I could stay in my seat.
UPDATE: I was able to stay in my seat but he was magical in concert. Me and 10,000 other people rocked out at the HP Pavilion. Go see him if you can!
Everything
Just one hell of a sexy song. What gal wouldn’t want that sung to her?Spiderman
I remember the jingle from the cartoon oh so long ago. I can’t believe MB can make it sound smooth and funky. A very nice touch is the old time microphone.Paul Anka Sings Eye of the Tiger
I have to say this feels like revenge to me. My choir teacher made us sing this and it sucked. Paul makes it sound so much better than the original. It actually swings. Thought the video could use a better soundtrack.
I found it funny no one seemed to get very offended by his version of this song but the comments on his version of Smells Like Teen Spirit were very caustic. Come on people. I liked Nirvana but they weren’t a sacred cow.

Classical Indian Bamboo Flute:
This is a video of G.S Sachdev and Sanjay Bhadoriya playing a concert. Sachdev is playing a classical bamboo flute (the bansuri). I have had the privilege of knowing GS Sachdev most of my life. He is one of the kindest, gentlest people I have ever met.
This is my absolute favorite piece of his:
G.S. Sachdev - Greeting Of The Dawn - raga lalit
The video isn’t a video just an image but listen to his music. (I am sorry, it cuts out partway for some reason. Well, buy his CD and support my friend!) His music touches a whole different place in my soul. He is popular overseas and he still travels all over the world giving concerts.

Opera:
Paul Potts sings Opera. This is from Britain’s Got Talent and his first audition. This is why you should never let anyone talk you out of pursuing your dreams. Do what your heart tells you you must do. He goes on to win the competition! You can search on youtube for his other videos. I look forward to seeing what else he can do. He got a standing ovation and created tears in people’s eyes.
I discovered Paul Potts because of Seth Godin. I read Seth’s blog and he used Paul as a talking point about his new book “The Dip”.
