Berkeley Mills

Beautiful Furniture from Berkeley Mills in CA.

Simply put, this is…furniture porn.

Furniture so well made it can get you hot and bothered. Amazing stuff. I wish all furniture was made this well. Of course I would have to hit a bank to be able to afford it but at least I have taste if not the pocketbook. Someday…

Here is part of what they say on their home page:
W
e draw inspiration for our custom furniture collections from diverse aesthetic traditions. Much of our furniture honors the Arts & Crafts style, with its spare, horizontal lines and seamless blend of form and function. Our Japanese-influenced tansu and shoji screens adapt dynasties-old designs to contemporary lifestyles. Our Prairie selections interpret the organic structural aims of Frank Lloyd Wright in custom furniture that looks as if it has always inhabited your home.

Definitely check it out!

I like the Earth Chair. Grow one in your back yard for reading.
Would be hard to mow, though… Clippers maybe?

And I like the rocking chair!

International Furniture Design Asahikawa

The International Furniture Design Competition Asahikawa (IFDA) has continued to grow for the past twenty years well into the 21st century, and has gained important standing as an international event as opposed to being a mere strategy to promote local industry.

The proof of this can be seen in the creative efforts of people, which increased despite the great changes made to the world furniture industry brought about by the globalization of the economy over the last 20 years.

While this competition with “wooden furniture” as its theme is aimed at cultivating the future of wooden furniture design, it is obvious we have an important role to play in stopping global warming. We make daily efforts in the conservation of wood and promote the protection of forests as an aspect of design management.
