My new imagekind site is open!
http://maureengrey.imagekind.com/
I am pleased to announce my new imagekind site is up and running. I have 3 pieces up there for now. There will be many more as soon as I can get them up. I will be making tweaks to the site as I figure out more about how it all works. What pleases me the most however, is the quality at which I can now produce my art. The site offers very high end printing and numerous matting, framing and glazing options.
The first piece is called Art Deco Samurai.
I created it as an ode to Toshirô Mifune, a Japanese actor who starred in many of Akira Kurosawa’s films. My father and I would go his films together when I was a girl. I have pleasant memories of watching Toshiro on screen. (Though I realize that the films were quite violent, they didn’t seem so bad because they were in black and white. I think they also contributed to my love of all things swashbuckling.)
I created the bell shape of the yellow bottom section because that was what their hakama (wide legged pants) always looked like to me. The yellow arc at the top was for the “wings” some of the samurai armor seemed to have. I don’t have room to do traditional stained glass but I do love the play of light through the stained glass. My answer was to create digital stained glass. And you don’t need an actual window for it. Got a wall you think needs a window? Brighten it up with a colorful stained glass print.
The second piece is called Rockabye Moon.
I wrote new lyrics for the Rock-a-bye song when my daughter was born. I loved the tune but thought the old lyrics were awful. I didn’t want to sing to my daughter about dropping out of a tree! So I wrote new lyrics. They read:
Rock-a-bye baby, in my arms, dear.
You are amazing. So glad you’re here.
So glad to know you. So glad you’re mine.
And I’ll love you always, ’til end of time.
My daughter now sings those lyrics to other children. What a better sentiment to have our children hear.
The third piece is called Eight Verses Gateway.
I have been reading a lot of books of the teachings of the Dalai Lama. This piece is a mandala I created after reading Transforming the Mind: Teachings on Generating Compassion. The book is a transcript of a seminar he gave on Buddhism. The title of this piece comes from the first appendix at the back of the book: The Eight Verses on Transforming the Mind. They are hard lessons. By that I mean I think very few people could live all of them. They go hand in hand with the whole turn the other cheek thing and they call on each of us to grow and growth can be hard sometimes.
2 new sections added: Tech and Events to Check Out
Tech to Check out is a new section for things tech as I find them. Reviewed this time: Pandora.com

And coming soon, my new Imagekind site. A place to buy high end prints of my art nicely matted and framed! I have over 50 more designs waiting in the wings it is just a matter of getting them all uploaded on to all the swag.
Not bad for only being up for a month. Stay tuned for more!
